Elias Ppiros - Designer and Puppet Maker

Elias Ppiros is an Adelaide-based Designer and Puppet Maker working in the areas of Theatre, TV, Live Performance, Events, Exhibition, and Installation.

Since the successful premiere of his interactive puppet-based exhibition, Characters, Elias has shifted his professional and business model towards the further growth and culmination of producing his own work. Elias aims to throw audiences into an experience merging the intersection of puppetry, audience interactivity and immersion. Believing puppets are a universal language, he aspires to make works that are accessible to all, while embracing puppetry as a pathway to a rich, textural, and sensory world. Elias’ core design aesthetic derives from the form of textural elements, utilising fur, fleece, and fabrics to create tactile layered puppets. Bringing happiness out of others and encouraging the exploration of the imagination are at the heart of all of Elias’ works.

Elias worked as a Puppet Maker and Miniature Puppet Maker for Season One of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s TV series Beep and Mort.

Elias has worked with various companies and organisations world-wide including the State Theatre Company of South Australia, State Opera South Australia, Handspring Puppet Company, Patch Theatre, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and Slingsby Theatre.

Some of Elias’ puppetry credits include: Home (Patch Theatre and Restless Dance), Beep and Mort (Windmill Pictures and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation), The Goat or, who is Sylvia? (State Theatre Company of South Australia and Sydney Theatre Company) and Characters: an interactive, puppet-based exhibition (2023 Premiere at DreamBIG Children’s Festival).

Elias premiered his reimagined, interactive, multisensory puppet-based exhibition Characters as part of the 2023 DreamBIG Children’s Festival at the Adelaide Festival Centre.
